Loyalty to Christ and the Courage to Speak Truth to Power

Many of you have likely followed the recent statements, images, and controversies surrounding President Trump and the response of various Christian leaders. If you have missed some of these developments, the details are widely reported and easily found.
As we consider these events, let us begin where sober Christians should always begin: His word and loyalty that belongs first and only to Jesus Christ. Earthly leaders may deserve our respect, our prayers, and at times our support, but they do not command our ultimate allegiance. That allegiance belongs to the Lord alone. When the honor of HIS name is at stake, the question before us is not political, but eternal.
What follows is offered as a call to examine the current circumstances (and our own hearts) carefully and in the light of Scripture.
